I'm dreaming of warm sandy beaches.
I'm dreaming of days by the pool.
I'm dreaming of fun in the afternoon sun,
and week after week of no school.
I'm thinking of swim suits and sprinklers,
imagining lemonade stands.
I'm lost in a daydream of squirt guns and ice cream
and plenty of time on my hands.
I'm picturing baseball and hot dogs,
Envisioning games at the park,
and how it stays light until late every night,
and seems like it never gets dark.
I long to ride skateboards and scooters.
I want to wear t-shirts and shorts.
I'd go for a hike, or I'd ride on my bike,
or play lots of summertime sports.
My revery turns to a yearning
to draw on the driveway with chalk.
It's really a bummer to daydream of summer
while shoveling snow from the walk.

This poem makes me feel like I am in Summer not Winter because they are talking about lemonade stands and it stays late ever night. I think this poem is talking about a dream that a kid has because they are talking about no school, riding scooters and drawing on the drive way with chalk. I have dreams like the poem was talking about mine are to be a famous singer and to be a Criminal Justice Lawyer.I do not agree with one talking about no school because I really love school. Well i hope everyone likes my post Bye
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this poem it remined me of Orlando,Fl because when I lived it was like every day in orlando was like summer and the beaches are a sight to behold the sand felt like a warm hot blanket and sea was cold btu just the way I liked it. Sure sometimes it was cold but not as cold as NY but man do I miss the smell of my old garden and my seeing the bees take pollen and the birds chirping it was a nice day every day!!!
ReplyDeleteI always think about that when im shoveling my driveway
ReplyDeletei think that the poem has alot of details in it . it states the more ovious things about summer than most people would do. i LOVE the summer time because it makes me fell so free. the author makes it sound like hes a kid that really likes summer.
ReplyDeleteI like this poem because it reminds me of the summer and when I was at camp and it was hot realy hot but we tryed to stay warm so the camp couslers gave us water ballons to throw at each other. It also reminds me of my jacquizzi sized pool.
ReplyDeleteI think this poem wonderful! I love the way the poem describes all the wonderful adventures of the summer. I love the summer and I all so love winter, especially because I was born in the winter, March 10. I think winter is just as good as summer, but if you look at it on the characters point of view, who wants to be shoveling when it's freezing cold out side?
ReplyDeleteI think this poem is remarkable it reminds me of the summer when i used to go swiming and drink lemonade
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I have to say is this poem has a lot of detail. also a lot of poems I have read by Ken Nesbitt ends with a kind funny and kind sad ending. I think this one has both of those because he is think of summer in the winter and he really can't wait until summer and he's shoviling in really cold weather.
ReplyDeleteInesha great comment,I love how you related the poem to your life.Keep up the great work!!
ReplyDeleteThis poem reminds me of Jamaica. The way the poem reminds me of Jamaica is that the night never ever comes until late, it also reminded me of when I went to Jamaica and took plenty of swims and having ice-cream. This poem really reminds me of alot of things.
ReplyDeleteHey! This poem is very discriptive and reminds of when I used to go to Tampa,Florida with my grandmother to visit my great grandmother. I don't go anymore because I think I was getting too EXPENSIVE! I think my little sister will be going to meet and stay with my great grandmother. There are a couple of things that miss now and those are the warm sunny beaches, cool wind in my hair, great tasting food and ESPECIALLY my great grandmother. I once imangined all this while I was shoveling my drive way and can relate to Inesha and Elijah in this post!
ReplyDeletei think that the poem is like the book THE IMPORTANT BOOK. i rreally like this poem because it is so discriptive and i can piture it in my head.

ReplyDeleteElijah nice work I love how you talked about your life in the poem.
ReplyDeletekayla I love your comment I never been to Jamica but the way you said it was like I can picture it.
ReplyDeletei think that the poem i dont know if the author has kids or not but he put a lot of detail in his poem. i think that some kids could relate to this poem alot if they read it they would probably say [i do that i the summer time.] i think that the poem is more discriptive of what the children do how about the adults?
ReplyDeletetyler i read your poem and i liked how you put that i relatoin with your own life.
ReplyDeleteKayla- I am glad you love school! Me too! I love having you in my class and you offer such great analysis!
ReplyDeleteInesha- I LOVE your use of language. I can feel what you are saying when you say, "nice warm blanket"! Great analogy!
JoyLove- I like how you talk about the author's voice. I love the summer too! Can you tell me how you think the poem is like "The Important Book"?
Tyler- I like how you tell us what the poem reminds you of and how you relate it to your life.
Tierra- I love summer and winter too! But I agree about who wants to shovel? Not Me!! I would rather have my toes in the sand!
Devin- I love how you are starting to understand Ken Nesbitt's style. He is a great writer. Can you write a poem like him for a challenge?
Adrianna- I too imagine warm sandy beaches when I am shoveling! I love to feel the hot sun on my face and my toes in the sand instead of an ice cold breeze and three layers of socks!
Elijah and Richard- Can you give me more? One sentence is not enough!
Keep up the amazing work!
