***Note to parents, the following poem is religious in nature. If you are not comfortable with posting on the following poem, please skip this one and go to the one below. I wanted to make sure that, in our discussions of the December holidays, we did touch on the religious nature of Christmas, because I feel it is an essential part of the historical background. Enjoy and I wish you all a happy holiday and a relaxing two weeks off!
It's just a little Christmas treat,
but also, did you know?
It represents our Savior
born so long ago.
The shape is like a "J"
to symbolize His name.
The white is for His life,
Holy, without blame.
And the stripe of red
is for His blood
so pure and freely given
that we might spend eternity
with our Lord in heaven.

This poem is very charming. I am so happy that you decided to write poem to tell us what the colors on the candy cane mean, because I been always wondering why is the candy cane only red and white but know I know that red is the blood of Jesus and white is for his life, holy without blame. My favorite line in this poem is that we might spend eternity with our lord in heaven. I also like this poem because it describes Jesus our savior. There is a line that I did not get a and that line is the white is for his life, holy, without blame. The sentence is just so unfamiliar to me. This poem is my favorite poem that you put on the blog post so far.
ReplyDeleteThis poem I think describes our savior from above who freed us of our sins, Jesus. One part that I like about the poem is when they talk about the red which represents his blood which in this poem they say is so pure and freely given that we might spend our eternity with our Lord in heaven. This is a very desciptive and I hope you Mrs.Mesnick will post more poems like this for Christmas. This site is very fun and I hope we get good grades and I look forward to talking about our posts with my class mates.
ReplyDeletewhen I read this poem I loved it because it is a fun poem and it tells you facts at the same time it is really a plesure reading this poem I have to say I enjoyed it.When it said the stripes represents his blood it makes me want to think twice about licking the the stripes.
ReplyDeletewhen i read this poem i loved it because when it said the stripes represents his blood it reminds me of god and to pray
ReplyDeletei think that it was a very nice and peaceful poem to read any time. it took me a little while to get that the author was trying to make a ryhmeing poem i just thought that he or she was trying to make a beat with the poem. i think that the poem was very nice and calm. i think that the author should have made the poem a little longer ,because the writing was so butiful. if i was the author i would be proud to be a writer. i think that the poem builds up into a poem, not only does it do that it really speaks for some one religous.if i werea author i would try hard to make a great poem like this one.
ReplyDeleteJoylove I love your comment. I love how youi related so many things into the poem. To me this is the best comment that you have posted so far. Keep up your great work!!

ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you all decided to embrace this poem! You did such a nice job. I am glad that it taught you some history too (about why the candy cane was made!).
ReplyDeleteYou all relate so well to the poem and looked at the deeper meaning. I am glad that the posts here were religious in nature and not about "the candy"!
Keep up the fantastic work!

I never knew that the candy cane was in honor of jesus. I never realized that if you flip the candy cane up side down that it is a J. Now I know that, thank you Mrs. Mesnick for telling me that information.
